So I’ve always been into Land Rovers… wanted one when I was younger as my first car, but couldn’t afford it. I enjoyed how much of a utility one could be, performing lots of different functions. At 18 I was paid off from the job I was in, so I decided after spending some time working on a friends Series III that I would go eBay shopping for my own. 11pm at night I win my auction for £500 – A 1974 Series III 109 with a 3.0L Ford Essex V6 in it. I went to collect it the next morning and that was that. Other than the cold drive up from Gloucester to Glasgow, I couldn’t have been happier.
That would be the start of the bottomless money pit that Land Rovers are. It needed 2 new outriggers/spring hangers (previous owner had just chopped them off and left a flat plate out), followed by a lot of work including new brakes a hardtop and rear door, replacement locks, replacement light fittings and unbutchering the light wiring.
10 years on I’m on Land Rover #3 – a 2004 TD5 Defender 110 9 seat CSW. This website is going to be a collection of knowledge I’ve found or researched as I’ve been working on different parts of this vehicle, as well plans for the future.
